AbiWord is an open source word processor that looks something like Microsoft Word. It is useful because it is under active development, cross-platform (Windows, Linux, BeOS), has a big GUI, is a type of application everyone knows, and because some of the developers are keenly interested in getting bug reports from us.
Downloads of the executable are available, as are downloads of the source.
The wv library reads Word files and converts them into a format used by AbiWord. It is also used by a Word-to-HTML converter named wvHtml.
